Yahoo messenger versus google talk which is best?
Yahoo has its Messenger (or YM), Google fields its Google Talk (or GTalk) in the IM arena that was once dominated by IQC, with Windows Messenger and, to a certain extent Skype, as the current major players. Yahoo has over 30 million users while Google has an extimated 7 million users. I’ll be looking at the two feature-by-feature.
Functionality - Both YM and GTalk can be installed as applications and but only YM has support for the Mac and Linux. Advantage: YM
Message Integration - GTalk can send messeges normally and users can use their GMail accounts to send messages. Google also has integrated the GTalk feature in some of their other applications like the Google Spreadsheet. YM can send messages via mobile, but depends solely on its client. Advantage: GTalk
Features - Clearly, YM has more to offer, since it sticks more to the IM client formula of features. It can send files, play games, set themes and have avatars to appeal to a wide-range of users. GTalk is minimalist at best. Advantage: YM
Fudge Factor - GTalk will be hard-pressed because with more people using YM, users are more likely to communicate with the Yahoo product. Advantage: YM
With what I have so far, YM clearly has the upper hand. Yahoo has created an application that may work in the casual or business environment whereas GTalk is really a bare-bones type IM service
